Best Time to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro can be trekked year‑round, but the most popular seasons are the dry months—December to March and June to October. The months often considered ideal are January, February, August, and September.

Is the Kilimanjaro Trek Technical?

Reaching the summit does not require technical climbing skills or specialized mountaineering equipment. Anyone with good overall fitness can attempt the climb. You should be able to jog for at least 30 minutes without excessive fatigue and comfortably walk 2 hours on uneven terrain. Trekkers with colds, throat irritation, or breathing issues should not ascend beyond 3000m. Individuals with heart or lung conditions must consult a doctor before planning the trek.

Are Park Fees Included in the Price?

Yes. All mandatory Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) charges are included. This covers conservation fees, camping fees, crew entry fees, and, where applicable, Tanzanian Forest Services (TFS) fees for routes such as Rongai, Lemosho, and Shira.

Can Children Climb Kilimanjaro?

Yes—however, the minimum age allowed by Kilimanjaro National Park for reaching Uhuru Peak is 10 years old.

What Happens If Someone Gets Sick on the Way to the Summit?

If a climber becomes unwell, an assistant guide will escort them down safely, while the rest of the group continues. In severe cases, rescue teams are called using the included emergency stretcher service. Our guides monitor everyone daily to minimize such risks.
